This small, no-frills rural railroad station in Copake is an important component of the market revolution that occurred in the Hudson Valley in the latter half of the 19th century. Built in 1876 for the Rhinebeck & Connecticut Railroad, the passenger and freight station was part of a much larger regional rail network that connected area farms to rapidly growing urban markets, like New York City. It also allowed resort tourism to flourish in the area before the advent of automobiles. The station is one of just three surviving examples of this railroad, and the only one that has not been moved or substantially altered.

The station was added to the National Register of Historic Places in January 2024. A full rehabilitation is currently underway by a team of professionals, led by Worth Preserving and Marilyn Kaplan Preservation Architecture.
