Larchmont, Westchester Co.
Project type
Cultural Resource Survey
Date
2019-2021
Client
Village of Larchmont, NY
Completed in collaboration with Neil Larson & Associates, this reconnaissance-level resource survey examined the whole of Larchmont Village. This bedroom community is significant as an early example of American suburban planning. Larchmont Manor, a subdivision planned in 1872, is recognized as one of the oldest and most significant examples in Westchester County. The land beyond the manor was developed in the early 20th century with numerous subdivisions reflecting domestic ideals of the period. These developer-planned neighborhoods feature an extraordinary range of English Revival design experimentation.
The Preservation League of New York State and the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation provided funding for this survey.
